A former University of Pittsburgh and NFL player from Monroeville was found dead in his home last week.
Bob Buczkowski, 54, was found just after 6 p.m. in his trailer on Northern Pike by Monroeville emergency responders. A family member called and said Buczkowski was unconscious and not breathing, Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said.
“It does not appear to be suspicious right now, and nothing is looking like it was a suicide,” Cole said.
The chief, who went to the scene after emergency responders found Buczkowski deceased, said the former football player had several medical problems.
“They found him deceased; it was beyond any type of resuscitation attempt,” he said. “But there was nothing unusual, other than him being a younger guy.”
Cole said officials found prescription pills at the scene but declined to identify them. He said the police department is awaiting results from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office for a cause of death.
Buczkowski pleaded guilty to two counts of promoting prostitution, six counts of possessing and dealing cocaine and several other charges in 2007. He was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest. He was also sentenced to nine to 18 months in jail but was paroled at his sentencing hearing.
The Monroeville native was a defensive lineman at University of Pittsburgh and was selected by the Los Angeles Raiders as the 24th pick in the 1986 NFL draft. He went on to play for the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns before he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks in August 1991.
