Republic Services has announced changes in what types of plastic it will accept for recycling in Delmont Borough.

Starting in Delmont during the month of September, Republic Services will be changing which plastic containers are being accepted, according to borough Councilman Stan Cheyne.

While the hauler will continue to accept plastic containers No. 1 and No. 2, they will no longer accept No. 3 through No. 7, borough officials announced on Tuesday.

Republic Services will continue to accept: clean paper, cardboard, and newsprint, as well as all glass food and beverage containers, steel, aluminum, and bi-metal food and beverage containers, as well as gable-top milk, gravy, and soup cartons.

All items should be rinsed and free of contaminants. Residents are reminded that pizza boxes and wet paper products are not acceptable. The provided recycling totes cannot be used as trash cans and no plastic bags of any type are accepted as recycling. Clean and dry consumer plastic bags can be returned to many stores for recycling.

Also, as part of the contract with Republic Services, the monthly rates will be increasing beginning in September, see DelmontBoro.com/trash-recyling for more information.

With the Labor Day holiday, the borough wide recycling and trash collection will be Saturday, Sept. 8. Curbside leaf waste pickup will begin in late October.
