Westmoreland County Parks & Recreation workers lower wooden decking into place atop a former railroad bridge near Trafford Road in 2016. Two comedy-night fundraisers this winter will benefit county parks and trail projects.
Nearly six new miles of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail will be opened to the public at separate ceremonies on Sept. 30.

The third phase of the trail is a 5.92-mile section beginning near the intersection of Forbes Road and the Turtle Creek Industrial Railroad in Trafford and continuing east to a property near Airgas on Route 22 in Murrysville.

Grand opening celebrations will take place in the following locations:

• 10 a.m. at the Roberts trail access, near Airgas on William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

• 11:15 a.m. at the Saunders Station Road trail access in Monroeville.

• Noon at the Trafford trail access near Parkside Creamery on Forbes Road.
