The collapsed pipe that apparently caused flooding on McKnight Road in Ross has been replaced.
Township crews removed the 60-inch storm-sewer line that was 20 feet underground and replaced it a new section. The new section was fully functional by late Friday, the township said.
The problem came to light during a modest rainfall on July 6 when water pooled at the busy intersection of McKnight and Seibert roads. The area flooded several more times in the coming week.
Township officials discovered the problem – excavation revealed a crushed corrugated steel pipe blocking stormwater from flowing to connector pipes that lead into a tributary of Girty's Run.
The cost estimate of the emergency repairs has been pegged at approximately $100,000.
The property is question was the site of a closed mattress retailer across McKnight from the Ross Park Mall entrance. Township officials said the property owner is responsible for the line and will be billed for the work.
According to Allegheny County property records, the site is owned by Kin Properties of Boca Raton, Fla. Several telephone messages seeking comment left with Kin's office were not returned.
