North Allegheny speech, debate duo shine in Tournament of Champions

Bethany Ricci, of McCandless, and Adelle Fernando, from Franklin Park, both juniors, took part in the Tournament of Champions, a national high school speech and debate tournament held at the University of Kentucky.

Bethany Ricci of McCandless and Adelle Fernando from Franklin Park, juniors at North Allegheny High School, have made a big splash on the national level as they competed in the most prestigious and competitive high school speech and debate tournament in the country.

After earning a semifinal win at the Harvard University National Tournament in February, they earned the right to attend and compete in the Tournament of Champions, held at the University of Kentucky this spring.

Bethany and Adelle were the only pair to compete from the state of Pennsylvania in their event and made it to the semifinals in the Duo Interpretation event.

Adelle and Bethany also won third place in the Pennsylvania State tournament and first place in almost all the local circuits during this school year.
