Lower Valley Athletic Foundation raised around $3,000 from the inaugural Battle in the Borough wrestling event Aug. 25.

Lawrenceville-based prowrestling promotion KSWA superstars performed at Cribbs Field along South Avenue in Verona that evening.

Proceeds were distributed to various organizations at the Sept. 11 borough council meeting.

Disbursements included $100 for the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, $100 for Lower Valley Ambulance Service, $200 for the Blue Force Foundation and $1,900 for the Verona parks and recreation department. Remaining funds went back to LVAF to support more programs.

LVAF Secretary/Treasurer Timothy Long called the event a success, and hopes to build on it next year.

“It makes me feel good to be able to put these things together and raise money for good causes,” he said.

Money was raised through ticket sales, 50/50 and basket raffles and concession stand sales.
