Penn Hills man's shooting death caught on tape
Video surveillance at a homicide victim's Penn Hills home shows the man being shot to death during an apparent robbery, according to Allegheny County police.
County detectives viewed the video from the 208 Conestoga Road home of Kevin Trowery, 54, which depicts three men attacking Trowery on Sunday night.
"(The video shows) Trowery ... standing on the residence's front porch when three males are seen running towards (him)," states an affidavit filed in the case. "The video shows two ... pointing a firearm at Trowery."
After a struggle, gunshots were fired, police said.
"The heavier set individual fired one round at Trowery and (he) is seen falling to the ground," the affidavit states. "The three are then seen beating Trowery and the heavy set individual is then seen firing two more shots at Trowery. Several seconds later, two ... are seen pulling Trowery back into the residence."
The affidavit is filed against Donald King, 31, of Stowe, who is accused of homicide and other crimes, including conspiracy, robbery and two firearms charges. He's in the county jail.
County spokeswoman Amie Downs said dispatchers received a call about shots fired on Conestoga about 10:40 p.m. Sunday.
The affidavit states a Penn Hills officer responding to the scene saw three males dressed in black and wearing masks exiting the home. One tried to flee in a Lincoln Navigator but abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
King was found nearby. Police discovered the Navigator was registered to him.
Police also found a trash bag containing cash, which the video showed the men carrying from the home.
Trowery was pronounced dead at the scene.
"At this point, it appears the motive for the shooting was robbery," county homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman said Monday. "We found what they stole, money."
The other two men remain at large.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call county police at 412-473-1300.
