A banner at Rodi and Frankstown roads in Penn Hills announces the first Rosedale Fall Festival, Sept. 14-16.

Rosedale Beach Club will fill a niche left when the Verona Fall Festival died after 15 years in 2015.

The club will host the three-day Rosedale Fall Festival starting Sept. 14 at its pool at 5407 Third St. in Penn Hills. The festival opens at 6 p.m. each day.

“Rides, games, great food. It really gives people a chance to shake off the pessimism of the world. And with kids going back to school, it's a fresh start for the season,” club Chairman Daryl Saltzman said. “It was a dream of ours to do something like this up there.”

While in a different municipality, the new event is about two miles from the Verona borough building where its predecessor was held. Rosedale will have many of the same activities, including food booths and entertainment each night.

“We're glad to see Rosedale is attempting to do the festival,” said Ann Larkin, former chairwoman of the Verona Fall Festival. “Many of us plan to go to offer support.”

Larkin said her group's festival fizzled because of a lack of volunteers.

“We loved it. It was a wonderful community event and it's sad that we couldn't continue,” Larkin said.

Tickets for unlimited runs on the amusement park rides are available at the club office for $12 until Sept. 13, or $15 at the festival. Proceeds will benefit the Rosedale Beach Club.

On the final night of the festival, donations will be sought for Katherine Sandry, a young Verona woman suffering from cancer, during a performance by Poor Souls, a band made up of Penn Hills teachers.
