Repair crews said about 16 homes lost water services because of a water main break on Wednesday.

Authorities temporarily closed Beulah Road in Penn Hills on May 30 because of a water main break on a 12-inch line.

Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority crews spent most of the day repairing the break, officials said.

Tom Sorce, the authority's director of distribution, said his department was notified of a problem about 9:30 a.m.

He said approximately 16 homes were without water service while repairs were made.

Resident Terri Bishop said she saw a hole in the road with water gushing out during her morning commute.

“It was sunk in and bubbling over,” she said. “It reminded me of an ant hill but in the middle was water.”

Motorists attempting to go around barriers blocking intersections were turned away by repair crews.
