Springing from four seasons in the cast of the popular “Dance Moms” reality show, Kendall Vertes is launching a pop music career.
Los Angeles-based Jenga Productions released the Penn Township girl's first single, “Wear Em Out,” on Tuesday through iTunes. The song — which will be accompanied by a video later this spring — is one of six that Kendall, 12, has recorded so far for an upcoming album that will be released under the name “Kendall K.”
“It's just a really catchy song, and it's fun to dance to,” Kendall said in a phone interview from Los Angeles.
The single is another choreographed step in Kendall's young entertainment career.
Already, she has a significant social-media presence, including almost 2 million followers on the Instagram photo-sharing site.
Kendall said she hopes her fans enjoy the song. Filming for the video at an airport hangar in the L.A. area happened over a 14-hour period in one day last month, she said.
“It was a really long day, but it was the best day of my whole entire life.”
Kendall had been a sixth-grader at Penn Middle School, but she withdrew earlier this year to be home-schooled and tutored while she pursues projects such as the album.
Penn Middle School Principal Jim Simpson called Kendall an “A-plus young lady” whose celebrity status hasn't gone to her head.
“I'm very proud of her talents,” he said. “The thing I like about her the most is she's such a down-to-earth lady.”
Kendall's mother, Jill, credited Abby Lee Miller, owner of the Penn Hills dance studio featured on Lifetime's “Dance Moms,” for helping to create an opportunity for the young dancer to get into singing and acting, too.
“Abby has opened the door for us. Where we go from here, the sky's the limit.”
