A couple escaped a drive-by shooting Sunday that left their Jeep riddled with bullet holes, police said.

The couple told Pittsburgh police a dark gray or silver GMC SUV pulled along side their white Jeep Compass at about 10:54 p.m. and opened fire as they turned onto Industrial Highway near Mazette and Beechnut roads in Fairywood.

The Jeep had eight bullet holes and damage to the driver side where it sideswiped a guardrail on Industrial Highway, but the occupants were uninjured.

The couple, a man from the West End and a woman from the North Side, both 25, told police they could not see the people inside the GMC.

Less than two hours later, police went to the 3700 block of Chartiers Avenue for a report of shots fired. They found a white Nissan Altima with five bullet holes. The car was parked and unoccupied. No one was injured. The car’s owner did not see who shot it.

Police are investigating the shootings as separate incidents and do not believe they are related, police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.
