28-year-old charged in fatal McKeesport shooting

A wounded man was found Saturday by police at a McKeesport hospital and arrested in connection with a fatal shooting earlier in the day.

McKeesport police were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Jenny Lind Street at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in response to a 911 call about a shooting.

Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the homicide victim as Wyatt L. Gaza of Pittsburgh. He died at the scene 15 minutes after he was shot, according to the medical examiner.

Within minutes, McKeesport police were sent to UPMC McKeesport for a second man, Damien Ashley, who also had gunshot wounds and was driven to the hospital in a private vehicle. He was flown to a trauma center and was listed in stable condition.

Detectives from the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit responded, police said. They determined that the victim and Ashley, 28, were involved in an altercation when Ashley shot the victim and fled after also being shot.

Ashley is being charged with criminal homicide, tampering with evidence, persons not to possess firearms and carrying a firearm without a license.
