Pittsburgh leaders promoted three police officers during a ceremony Thursday.

Mayor Bill Peduto promoted William English to lieutenant and Kevin Walters and George Kristoff to sergeants in the City-County Building Downtown.

“(These are) officers who have earned these positions on merit,” Peduto said. “... They did it on their own accord.”

English most recently worked out of the Zone 1 police station in the North Side. Walters worked in accident reconstruction and Kristoff worked in patrol at the Zone 4 station in Squirrel Hill.

“Everyone looks to move up and improve themselves and try to give something back,” Walters said. “It was my chance to do that.”
