3rd ‘Scream’ mask robbery this month reported in Shadyside
A third woman reported she was robbed by a man wearing a “Scream” mask this week, Pittsburgh police said.
The incident happened about 11:50 p.m. Sunday on Howe Street in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood, said Public Safety spokeswoman Alicia George.
The woman told police she was walking on Howe Street toward Ivy Street when a man wearing a ghost mask popularized by the movie series “Scream” emerged from the bushes and robbed her of her belongings, George said.
Two similar incidents happened within a short time of one another on Sept. 17.
In the first, the victim told police she was walking on Walnut Street when a man wearing a Scream mask tried to take her cell phone, police said. When the suspect was unsuccessfully, he pulled out a gun and took off with the woman’s belongings.
A second woman told police she’d been walking in the same area when a man in a Scream mask approached and demanded her things, police said.
Police are urging residents in the area to be alert and be aware of anyone who appears suspicious. The suggested keeping porch lights turned on and to remain alert, particularly after dark.
