At least 1 loose barge shuts down McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge
The McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge closed late Tuesday morning after it was struck by at least one loose barge, officials said.
Allegheny County’s official Twitter account tweeted at 11:47 a.m. that the bridge was closed after the barges struck its piers.
McKeesport police said it was unclear when the bridge would re-open.
The runaway barge and bridge closure come three weeks after a dozen barges broke loose on the Monongahela River, shutting down the McKees Rocks, West End, Fort Pitt, Liberty, Smithfield and Panhandle bridges for hours.
