"Bishop Zubik is resting comfortably at UPMC Mercy Hospital, Uptown, and hopes to return home soon. Bishop Zubik is grateful for continued prayers for strength and healing during his recovery," the diocese said in a release at about 2:30 p.m. In May, Zubik, 68, revealed in a Pittsburgh Catholic column that debilitating back problems had caused numbness in his right foot and that he had stopped driving as a safety precaution. He wrote that he has "become a user and a fan of the ride-sharing service Uber," which, he said, gets him where he needs to go.
