A Pittsburgh man has been identified as the Allegheny County Jail inmate who died Saturday at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh.

Frank Burkert, 59, died at 12:16 p.m. Saturday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner said. The cause of death was not released by the medical examiner.

Jail Warden Orlando Harper said in a statement that medical and correctional officers administered first aid to the inmate when they were alerted at 10:50 a.m. that a male inmate was experiencing “breathing distress.”

Paramedics from Pittsburgh EMS transferred him to UPMC Mercy, the warden stated.
