A proposal to seek $420,000 from the state to repair the USS Requin submarine docked on the shore of the Ohio River near Carnegie Science Center is one of 26 projects competing for $6.92 million in grants.

The Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County on Friday approved a plan to submit all the projects in one application to the Commonwealth Finance Agency, which will meet in early July to consider requests.

Dennis Davin, the authority's executive director and director of the county's Department of Economic Development, said state officials asked for all the requests to come in one application.

Money for the World War II-era Requin, which is open for daily tours, would pay for sandblasting and repairing its exterior and applying a coat of specialized marine paint.

Other major requests include:

• $500,000 by Allegheny Valley North Council of Governments, to replace the deteriorating 4th Avenue Bridge in Tarentum;

• $400,000 by Program for Offenders Inc., for the acquisition and renovation of two structures at the former Keystone Plumbing site in West Homestead;

• $350,000 by Marshall to establish a right-turn lane on Thorn Hill Road by widening the westbound approach to RIDC Thorn Hill Industrial Park;

• $300,000 by Goodwill Southside Workforce Development to replace the roof, windows, HVAC system, and life safety equipment at its South Side building;

• $200,000 by Persad Inc. of East Liberty for construction costs associated with interior office and parking lot rehabilitation;

• $150,000 by RE2 Inc. of Lawrenceville to execute a pending military robot contract;

• $150,000 by C-Leveled LLC of Bloomfield to expand its location and improve furniture/fixtures, IT equipment and job training.
