Multiple penguins walk around outside of their sanctuary at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium on Dec. 5, 2018.
The lightly falling snow didn’t bother some of the residents of PPG Aquarium as they made their way outside Wednesday morning.

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium’s Penguins on Parade started its season on Saturday and will continue every weekend as long as the temperature stays under 45 degrees.

Mike Syska, 35, of Shaler has made a point to come for the parade in years past. He and his children, Ryliegh, and Dillon, weren’t expecting to see them on their special weekday walk.

“Usually, you just see them in there,” he said, gesturing to the aquarium. “It’s pretty cool you get to see them out.”

Jessica Ries, the penguin keeper at the aquarium, said the penguins love the parade.

“They are naturally curious birds, and the opportunity to venture outside and see and hear so many new sights and sounds is great enrichment for them,” Ries said. “I think the penguins have as much fun as we do.”
