A man in a wheelchair was injured when the jitney he was climbing into took off and dragged him in an attempt to escape a robbery, authorities said.

An Allegheny County 911 supervisor said the call initially came in before 5 a.m. near the intersection of Moultrie and Washington streets, near the Birmingham Bridge. Public Safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said the victim was getting into a jitney when someone attempted to rob him. The jitney driver tried to flee and dragged the victim some distance; the driver then fled the scene, Toler said.

The victim was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition, she said. The investigation is ongoing.
