Longtime Pittsburgh news anchor Adam Lynch has died at 89, according to WTAE.

Lynch worked for all three of the major Pittsburgh TV stations over the course of his career — KDKA, WIIC (now known as WPXI) and WTAE.

He was quick-witted, funny and had all the traits of a great broadcaster — including a great voice, said Sally Wiggin, who was a reporter at WTAE when Lynch joined in 1980 and eventually became his co-anchor.

"The first time I heard his voice, I swooned. He had the greatest pipes in the business, but his journalistic intelligence was as good as his voice," Wiggin said. "He was remarkable."

He worked at WTAE until his retirement in 1993.

"For him, it wasn't a craft, it was an art," Wiggin said. "Telling stories to the people."

He anchored several time slots over the years and transformed the 6 a.m. broadcast.

"He was a force," Wiggin said. "He really made mornings in Pittsburgh a big deal, and our mornings with him were really popular."

After his retirement, he stayed involved in journalism by writing articles for magazines.

He was most recently living in San Antonio with his family.

"He was a grand man," Wiggin said.
