A shooting led to a foot chase in Pittsburgh’s South Side neighborhood early Friday morning, police said.

Police said an officer was working a secondary detail just after 2 a.m. when shots were fired near the intersection of East Carson and South 13th streets.

The officer chased the suspect before losing sight of him near Bedford Square, according to Public Safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer. Responding officers found the suspect, identified as Ramar Lamont Winbush, 30, of Mount Washington, a few minutes later on Muriel Street.

A police K-9 was brought to the scene and located the discarded gun under a bush near Esser Park, Schaffer said.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. police were called to East Carson where they found the shooting victim. Schaffer said a 25-year-old Duquesne man was taken to UPMC Mercy in stable condition.

Winbush is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, escape and firearms violations.
