Newsmaker: Carla Ryba
Noteworthy: Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald honored Carla Ryba with a proclamation for her more than 30 years in education in the county. The county “is fortunate to have individuals so dedicated to the education of our students and Ms. Ryba,” Fitzgerald said in a proclamation presented to her. “We are thankful for her tireless efforts.”

Occupation: Campus director of the West View campus of the Career Training Academy, a two-year school that offers associate degrees in medical assisting, medical billing, massage therapy and dental programs. She plans to retire this year.
Education: Ryba graduated from Monessen High School. She went to the University of Pittsburgh and after eight years of night classes graduated with a degree in business education in 1975.
Background: Ryba first worked in internal communications at Gulf Oil in Pittsburgh. When Chevron bought Gulf Oil, she began to look for different work. In 1985, Ryba went to work at the ICM School of Business in Pittsburgh which later became Kaplan Career Institute. She joined Career Training Academy in 2008 as the campus director of its West View campus.
