Noteworthy: Newman was selected as the first Katherine M. Detre Endowed Chair of Population Health Science in the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public Health. Detre was one of the country's top epidemiologists and Pitt's Distinguished Professor of Epidemiology. She died in 2006. The chair supports large-scale clinical trials in epidemiology.
