Newsmaker: Dr. Anne Shaheen
Noteworthy: The Allegheny County Health Department recognized Shaheen for what she and her practice, OB/GYN Associates of Pittsburgh, does to promote breast-feeding. The health department presented Shaheen a certificate of achievement on Oct. 8.

Occupation: Shaheen is an obstetrician and gynecologist whose private practice within UPMC delivers 800 to 1,500 babies a year.
Background: Shaheen began to think more about breast-feeding after she had her first child and learned it can be extremely difficult. Now, Shaheen and the doctors she works with talk to women throughtheir pregnancy and soon after they give birth to stress the benefits.
Education: Graduated from the University of Akron and Ohio State University College of Medicine; residency at Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland.
