Newsmaker: Jamie McConaha
Noteworthy: McConaha has been named the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association’s 2014 Preceptor of the Year. She was nominated for the award by a student member of the association. The award recognizes a preceptor, or teacher, who goes above and beyond for his or her students.
Family: McConaha and her husband, Michael, are expecting a child Nov. 18
Occupation: Assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Duquesne University’s Mylan School of Pharmacy
Background: McConaha was raised in Monongahela, Washington County. She said she chose to pursue a pharmacy career because she had a passion for helping people and an interest in health science. She became an assistant professor at Duquesne in 2009. McConaha is the immediate past president of the Allegheny County Pharmacists Association and is completing her second consecutive term on the pharmacists association’s board.
Education: Doctorate of pharmacy from Duquesne University in 2007; teaching and research fellow at Duquesne from 2007 to 2009
