Allegheny County Council members will honor Jerry Chiapinelli, 69, of Penn Hills for his work with the Italian American War Veterans. Chiapinelli will become the organization’s National Commander in August when the Italian American War Veterans hold their national conference in Pittsburgh.

Background: Chiappinelli grew up in East Liberty and went to Central Catholic. In 1965, he joined the Army and served for two years. Chiappenelli served on the Board of Managers of Soldiers and Sailors Hall in Oakland. He is treasurer of the Penn Hills Democratic Party and has been a Democratic committeeman since 1979. Chiappinelli owns the Steel City Angels, a professional dance company.
