Noteworthy: The Jewish Healthcare Foundation awarded Excela Health a Fine Award in the spring, and will formally recognize the hospital system at an Aug. 29 event for winning the award. Kathleen Rosatti, who is director of medical outcomes, patient safety and infection control for the hospital system, oversaw the infection control efforts that led to the award.

Background: After Excela Health officials noticed an upward trend in central-line infections, Rosatti launched a top-to-bottom review of how the hospital handles the tubes that disburse fluids, blood and medications. Changes that followed resulted in a 50 percent reduction in infections from 2014 to 2016, she said.
