Occupation: Aerographer's Mate 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy. He analyzes meteorological and oceanographic information to predict weather and sea conditions for the ship.

Residence: A Squirrel Hill native, Bruce's home station is Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, Wash. The USS Stennis left there on Jan. 15 to join the “Great Green Fleet,” an ongoing experiment in running ships on renewable biofuels.

Education: Graduated from Brashear High School in 2013.

Background: Bruce enlisted in the Navy in 2013 and served aboard the USS Nimitz and USS Boxer, a Wasp-class amphibious assault vessel.

Quote: “If I was talking to a young person who was considering enlistment, I'd tell them to consider their own personality as well as their financial situation. Not just if they can afford to go to college, but if they're ready to go to college in terms of discipline and maturity, which are things that will be taught in the military if someone's willing to learn.”
