Ramayya Krishnan, dean of the H. John Heinz III College at Carnegie Mellon University, received the Nayudamma Award from the Nayudamma Centre for Development Alternatives in India. The award honors individuals for contributions in areas of sustainable development.

Noteworthy: Krishnan received the 2015 Nayudamma Award from the Nayudamma Centre for Development Alternatives in India. He was presented with the award, which honors people for contributions to sustainable development, at a ceremony in December at the India Institute of Technology Madras.

Occupation: Dean of the H. John Heinz III College at Carnegie Mellon University.

Education: Doctoral degree in management science and information systems, University of Texas at Austin.

Background: Krishnan was recognized for his research and leadership in using data to make better decisions for designing transportation systems and smart cities. Krishnan, who also delivered the 21st Professor Yelavarthy Nayudamma Memorial Lecture during the awards ceremony, has been a faculty member at CMU since 1988 and was appointed dean when the Heinz College was created in 2008.
