Noteworthy: Allegheny County Council honored North Fayette police Sgt. Michael Hayes and the department for earning national awards from the National Rifle Association's “Refuse To Be A Victim” program. Hayes, who put on four safety seminars last year and teaches other officers in the area about the program, was named the top law enforcement instructor of 2014. The department was named the top law enforcement agency of 2014.

Background: Hayes worked for several police departments in Beaver County before starting at North Fayette in 1995.

Education: Hayes attended classes at Gannon University before being accepted into the Allegheny County Police Training Academy. He graduated from the academy in 1991. He went to West Allegheny High School.
