Co-presidents of the Paris bid for the 2024 Olympics, former canoe champion Tony Estanguet (L) and Bernard Lapasset (R) and Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo arrive on May 24, 2017 for the 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, southern France.

Paris has a message for Pittsburgh.

The international furor over President Trump's remark about Pittsburgh and the Paris Climate Agreement has elicited a comment of friendship from the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

In a tweet Friday night, Hidalgo said 'hello' and thanks to Pittsburgh and Mayor Bill Peduto.

"Paris loves you," Hidalgo said.

Peduto responded in French.

Trump pulled the United States out of the historic pact earlier this week, a decision that some viewed as striking a major blow to efforts to combat global warming.

Peduto made worldwide headlines this week as he expressed his opposition to Trump's decision. Hidalgo, who has no known ties to Pittsburgh, was elected mayor in 2014.
