PAT bus riders rally Downtown, demand lower bus fares
Port Authority Transit bus riders demanded fair bus fares during a rally Friday in Downtown Pittsburgh.
About 2,500 Allegheny County residents signed a petition calling on the Port Authority board to implement “equitable fare polices which will grow transit ridership in the region.” Demands included the elimination of cash penalty, a cap on fares and free transfers.
“We have a moral problem in Allegheny County…poor folk are paying more for transit than those who can more easily afford it,” Laura Wiens, Director of Pittsburghers for Public Transit said.
The current bus fare is $2.50 per ride with a Connect Card $2.75 for riders who pay cash.
