Pittsburgh Cultural Trust adds metal detectors to Downtown theaters
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is adding metal detectors and bag inspections at the Byham Theater, Benedum Center for the Performing Arts and August Wilson Center to increase security.
According to a Trust news release, the new security measures will begin Oct. 13 at the Byham Theater for the Deborah Colker Dance show; Oct. 20 at the August Wilson Center for the Soul Sessions Faith Evans show; and Nov. 16 at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts for the Billy Gardell show.
The Trust is recommending people arrive at the venues up to 45 minutes earlier than they would in the past to make sure they get through security in time for the show, the release said. People re-entering the venues will need to go through security again.
The three venues will offer discounted drinks and concessions during a “Happy Half Hour” prior to each show, the release said.
“We’re always excited about providing amazing experiences and performances in the arts, while at the same time, increasing our ability to reassure our guests they are well protected while with us,” said Kevin C. Wilkes, the Trust’s chief security officer, in the release. “We’ve made sure our new systems utilize the most current and effective screening technology without interfering with the arts experience.”
