A jury Monday convicted a man from Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood of two violent rapes last summer near Westinghouse High School.

Daryl Hayden, 57, was found guilty in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court of three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse; two counts each of aggravated assault, strangulation, sexual assault, possessing instruments of crime and making terroristic threats; and one count each of rape and attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

The jury deliberated Friday and Monday before returning the verdict. It acquitted Hayden of a robbery charge.

Hayden attacked his first victim June 10, 2017, behind the high school on North Murtland Street. Hayden, who was not identified for weeks after the attack, beat the woman in the face and threatened her with a box cutter before sexually assaulting her and choking her, police said. She fought off Hayden, and he ran away.

On June 21, 2017, Hayden asked another woman for a cigarette as she walked near Frankstown Avenue. The two talked and walked before Hayden suggested they hang out behind the high school.

The woman balked at the idea, and Hayden attacked her, threatening her and her unborn child with a box cutter and telling her more than once that he would kill her, police said. He sexually assaulted the woman until a car spooked Hayden and he ran away.

Police received an anonymous tip after photos taken from security cameras were released to the media. Both women chose Hayden from a photo array.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 6.
