A Boston developer bought the Union Trust Building for $14 million at a sheriff's sale in 2014.

The Union Trust Building in Downtown Pittsburgh was awarded a 2018 American Architecture Award for building restoration.

The building at Grant Street and Fifth Avenue is one of only three buildings in the country this year to receive the prestigious award, given by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, a news release said.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and Unity Temple in Oak Park, Ill., were also awarded.

The Davis Companies, a Boston-based developer, bought the building for $14 million at a sheriff’s sale in 2014. The developer spent $100 million renovating the historic building.

The Union Trust Building is more than a century old and was originally commissioned by Henry Frick. It was designed by Frederick John Osterling.

Mayor Bill Peduto in 2016 signed a bill to divert up to $5.7 million in parking tax revenue to help preserve the Union Trust Building.
