The Point Breeze man who allegedly stole his ex-girlfriend's car on Wednesday remained in Allegheny County Jail on Christmas, unable to post a $75,000 bond.

Authorities charged Kermit Eugene Backus, Jr., 44, late Wednesday with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and unauthorized use of an automobile after he allegedly stole a red Ford Fusion from the Grant Street driveway of his ex-girlfriend in Verona.

The woman told Verona Police that she came home with her children around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday to find Backus inside her home. She told him to leave, so he grabbed her keys and drove off with her car, according to the criminal complaint.
