Police found a teenager's body Thursday morning near a Swissvale playground, authorities said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Vallen Davies-Mack, 17, of Swissvale. His family could not be reached.
Swissvale police officers responded at 7:10 a.m. to a call for an “unresponsive person” at Collingswood playground on Collingswood Street, officials said.
Davies-Mack suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating. Police officials said several neighbors heard gunfire about 1:30 a.m.
“At this point the motive for the shooting is not exceptionally clear,” Allegheny County Police officials said in a statement.
Police believe Davies-Mack lived in the neighborhood where his body was found.
Officials ask anyone who heard or saw anything in the area — the intersection of Denniston and Collingswood streets — to call the Allegheny County Homicide Unit at 412-473-1300.
Callers can remain anonymous. Police can also be reached via social media.
