Port Authority bus crashes into war memorial cannon
A Port Authority of Allegheny County bus struck multiple vehicles and a war memorial cannon at a Pittsburgh parklet Saturday afternoon, said Jim Ritchie, authority spokesman.
The cannon was lodged in the window of the bus, but no bus passengers were injured, Ritchie said.
A person who was in one of the cars the bus struck has a minor injury, Ritchie said.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. in a small grassy area where Brookline Boulevard meets Chelton and Queesnboro avenues, where the cannon is displayed.
“There's damage to the vehicles, the parklet and the bus,” Ritchie said.
The Port Authority is investigating the cause of the accident.
The bus driver will be tested for drugs and alcohol and will be held off with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, per Port Authority policy, Ritchie said.
