Port Authority bus hit head-on in Pittsburgh's Northview Heights
A Port Authority bus was involved in a head-on collision in Pittsburgh's Northview Heights section this morning, according the authorities.
The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. at Penfort and Essen streets, an Allegheny County 911 supervisor said.
Initial reports indicate that a van struck the bus as it was exiting the 450-unit Northview Heights Estates housing community operated by the Allegheny County Housing Authority.
The intersection is near the gated guard station at the entrance to the housing complex.
The van was driving the wrong way out of complex when it hit the bus, police said.
The van driver was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in the North Side for treatment of a facial injury, Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said. The bus driver is being treated for a knee injury at AGH.
Two passengers on the bus who suffered minor injuries told authorities that they would go to the hospital on their own as a precaution, Brandolph said.
