Port Authority's Red Line reopened in both directions after tree fell on tracks
Service along Port Authority of Allegheny County’s Red Line has reopened in both directions as crews have cleared a tree that fell on the tracks and repaired damage.
A portion of the light rail service was halted early Sunday morning when a downed tree fell on tracks at the system’s station in Beechview, causing a power outage.
Repair crews are worked Sunday morning to restore power and to remove the fallen tree.
Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph said repairs were taking longer than expected because of the size and location of the tree. Engineers also found that the tree had damaged a section of the rail that needed to be replaced.
Complete service was restored just before 8 p.m.
