Pittsburgh police Wednesday arrested a man who allegedly stabbed a cashier and made off with money from a Downtown convenience store early Sunday, authorities said.

Timothy Lamar Lewis, 46, is charged with aggravated assault and robbery, according to Public Safety spokeswoman Alicia George.

She said police found Lewis in Downtown near Sixth Avenue and Smithfield Street, and he was arrested without incident.

The incident happened about 2:15 a.m. Sunday at the Smithfield News convenience store near Point Park University, according to police.

Lewis approached the cash register, pulled out a knife and began grabbing cash from the open drawer, George said. An employee tried to fight him off but was stabbed in the process.

Lewis took off with the money, and the cashier was taken to the hospital in stable condition with multiple stab wounds.
