A Texas man was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to bringing heroin from Texas to Clairton, U.S. Attorney Scott Brady said.
U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Cameron Ranson, 43.
A sentence was separately ordered for co-defendant Jalea Carter, 26, of Clairton.
According to prosecutors, Ranson admitted traveling from Texas to Clairton to distribute heroin to his co-defendant, Skyler Carter, 37, of Clairton.
Prosecutors said Ranson is responsible for the distributing between .75 to 1.4 ounces of cocaine in the Pittsburgh area.
Ranson is the 11th of 21 defendants charged in the case to be sentenced. He must complete five years on supervision.
Records show Skyler Carter admitted to being a runner for the drug organization. He also pleaded in June to distributing fentanyl that resulting in the overdose death of “A.B.” in June 2017.
Carter also admitted he distributed fentanyl and cocaine.
Prosecutors said Carter allegedly supplied fentanyl and cocaine to his co-defendant, Katie Spratt, who distributed to A.B.
He also allegedly enlisted the help of his brother and sister, co-defendants Courtney Carter and Jalea Carter, among others, in his drug trafficking activities, using their residences to store, package and distribute fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and cocaine base.
On Tuesday, Jalea Carter was sentenced to three years probation, the first 90 days of which are to be served under home detention for maintaining a drug-involved premises.
At the time of her guilty plea, Carter said that from March through June 2017 she occupied and made her Third Street, Clairton, residence available for her brother and co-defendant, Skyler Carter, to store, package and distribute heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and crack cocaine. She was held responsible for approximately 4.5 grams of heroin seized from her home during the execution of a federal search warrant in June 2017.
