A judge on Monday convicted a Hill District man of murder, just short of two years after 26-year-old Manly Banks III was found shot six times on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Jarrod Dolphin, 23, was found guilty of third-degree murder after a three-day bench trial in front of Common Pleas Judge Thomas Flaherty.

Dolphin was charged Aug. 10, 2016, hours after the shooting in Northview Heights. He was arrested two months later by U.S. Marshals and the fugitive task force.

A witness told police at the time that they’d been standing in a courtyard in the housing complex on Mt. Pleasant Road when a man known as “G” pulled out a gun and began shooting Banks, according to the criminal complaint filed against Dolphin.

“G” – later identified as Dolphin – threatened the witness, who later picked Dolphin out of a photo array, according to police.

Surveillance footage from the area showed Banks, Dolphin and the witness in the courtyard when Dolphin suddenly produced a gun and fired at Banks, who was shot six times, according to the complaint.

Flaherty also found Dolphin guilty of illegally carrying a firearm. Sentencing is set for Nov. 1.
