West Mifflin Area School District Superintendent Daniel Castagna has been placed on paid leave while he awaits arraignment on charges of driving under the influence, Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV reported.

According to court documents, Castagna is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 31 on charges related to a traffic stop early Sept. 22 in Beaver County.

Castagna, 41, who was charged with driving under the influence , was suspended with pay following a majority vote by the school board.

Castagna has been superintendent in the suburban Pittsburgh school district since 2011.

Neither West Mifflin Solicitor Gary Matta nor Castagna's attorney Steve Valsamidis were immediately available for comment.
