West View man gropes woman who thought he was her Uber driver, police say
A woman waiting for an Uber ride in Downtown Pittsburgh got into the wrong vehicle and was groped by the driver, Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV is reporting.
The incident happened Saturday night; a woman was waiting for an Uber at 7th and Penn avenues when a car pulled up with an Uber sticker — but it wasn't the driver she'd ordered through the app.
Soumana Dao, 30, was not on-duty, and instead of taking her to her destination in the South Hills, he began driving her toward his home in West View.
West View police told WPXI that Dao began touching his passenger inappropriately; a neighbor heard the woman in distress and intervened. Uber told the TV station that Dao was a driver but has since been removed from the app.
Police charged Dao on Monday with kidnapping, simple assault, indecent assault and harassment. He remained at the Allegheny County Jail on $25,000 bail, according to court documents. He was arraigned early Monday and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 25.
