WiFi arrives at 7 Port Authority of Allegheny County T stations

Theresa Clift

Free WiFi is now available at seven Port Authority of Allegheny County T stations, county officials announced Monday.

The stations with WiFi are: Station Square, First Avenue, Steel Plaza, Wood Street, Gateway, North Side and Allegheny.

The service from Comcast Xfinity is available at all areas of those stations, but riders won't be able to connect while riding the T, officials said.

Comcast is considering expanding the service, said Bob Grove, a company spokesman.

Riders must register the first time they use the service, Grove said. Comcast customers will use their login information and non-customers will create one. After that, the system will remember each device.

Comcast has invested $20 million to extend the fiber network in Downtown Pittsburgh over the last year, including offering WiFi at city parks, and recreation and senior centers, Grove said.
