Oakmont council beefs up police force

Oakmont Police Department.

Gilbert Stubbs is Oakmont's new full-time police officer.

Oakmont recently added more manpower to its police force.

The borough council voted unanimously Oct. 16 to hire Gilbert Stubbs, 41, of Monroeville as a full-time officer at an hourly rate of $30.27.

The department now has a chief, five other full-time officers and eight part-timers.

The borough received 60 applicants and interviewed three candidates certified by its Civil Service Commission.

Stubbs has been a Wilkinsburg police officer for the last 10 years.

“He brings a lot of varied experience and training to the department,” said Oakmont police Chief Michael Ford. “I look forward to working with him. He stated to me he wants to make a long-term career out of this and looks forward to building relationships with the community.”
