Whiteout causes fatal crash in Beaver County

A Steubenville, Ohio woman who was a passenger in a car died when it hit a tractor-trailer during a snow whiteout on the Shippingport Bridge in Beaver County around noon Tuesday, according to the Tribune-Review's news partner WPXI.

The woman was identified as Alyssa Shuppus, 19.

The car was on Route 68 headed east when the driver turned onto the bridge, which crosses the Ohio River to connect Shippingport and Industry, and hit the tractor-trailer, police told WPXI.

Police say a snow squall made the road conditions slick and made it difficult to see around the time of the crash.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was shaken up but was not injured, according to the news station.

The bridge was closed for three hours.
