The Query Club at Sewickley Public Library will present a lecture, “Technology and Social Change” at 7 p.m. today as part of the Sewickley Speakers Series at the library, 500 Thorn St.
Papers to be discussed include, “What’s So Special About the Bronze Age,” by Connor Cogswell and “The Titanic: Engineering, Myth and Legend,” by Carol Shifflett. Special Titanic-themed refreshments will be served during intermission.

St. James Church, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, will have an Oktoberfest from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 5 at the church.
Dinner will be served from 6 to 9 p.m. The menu includes German potato salad, hotdogs, pork and beans, applesauce, German chocolate cake, macaroni and cheese, sauerkraut and kielbasa, light and dark beer, wine, soft drinks and lemonade. There will be music, entertainment, children’s games and tractor rides.
Cost is $12; eighth to 12th grade, $5; children to seventh grade, $3. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The public is welcome.
Sewickley United Methodist Church, 337 Broad St., Sewickley, will host a Welcome Fall Dinner from 5 to 7 pm. Oct. 6 at the church.
The menu will include pork kielbasa, hot dogs, haluski, sauerkraut, potatoes, rolls and dessert.
